Date syrup, molasses, or “honey” is a typical syrup of Middle Eastern cuisine, obtained from date extract. In the West, it is used in the same way as maple syrup, as a spread or to accompany pancakes or waffles. In the Middle East, it is often mixed with tahini before being eaten with pita bread (brunch), or with pastries for its characteristic taste and smell.
